Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the eligibility criteria for students?

Students aged 7 to 18 years old, of all skill levels, are welcome at Guitar Starz Club.

2. What is the enrolment process and deadlines?

For private online and in-person lessons, enrolment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up for a free lesson with zero commitments. Once a student decides to continue, parents must commit to a minimum of four lessons to secure a spot in the schedule. Enrolment process and deadlines for group lessons will be announced once they are launched.

3. What are the class schedules and availability?

Students can choose between 30-minute or 60-minute private online lessons, 30-minute or 60-minute in-person lessons on-site, or 60-minute in-person lessons at home. The lessons can be scheduled weekly or biweekly. Students must commit to a minimum of four lesson packages to reserve a regular spot on our schedule.

 

4. Which instruments are taught at the school?

We teach guitar (electric or acoustic), bass guitar, and ukulele.

5. What experience and qualifications do the instructors have?

All our instructors are experienced professional musicians and educators with more than 5  years of experience teaching music.

6. What are the cancellation and rescheduling policies?

Cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to the lesson. If cancellations are made less than 24 hours before the lesson, no refunds or make-up lessons will be granted.

7. How is progress tracked and reported?

Our students progress is tracked every class by our instructors and at home through the use of practice apps like Yousician (optional). Progress reports are provided to parents every six months.

8. What is the curriculum and teaching methodology?

Our curriculum emphasizes a gamified teaching environment, blending traditional methods with the use of digital tools (mobile apps, computer software, web apps) to spark engagement, progress tracking, and interactivity. Our primary focus is to help students develop a strong connection with their instrument by enabling them to achieve success quickly and play the songs they love. We achieve this by customizing the lesson plans to the needs of our students.

9. What equipment is required for online lessons?

To participate in online lessons, students need a stable and strong internet connection, a guitar, and a computer, tablet, or mobile device with Zoom or Google Meet conferencing capabilities. It is also recommended that students have an additional device (mobile, tablet, or computer) to access the apps and practice materials during the class. In this way, one device is used for communication with the teacher, and the second device is used for accessing practice materials.

 

10. Where are the in-person lessons conducted?

In-person lessons are taught at our instructor’s personal studios. Parent’s are welcome to be present during the lessons. 

 

11. What areas in the HRM do you cover for in-home private lessons?

We cover the East Side of the HRM up to Musquodoboit Harbour and Halifax Central. 

 

12. What is the payment method for lessons?

Payments are made for a package of 4 lessons in advance, and we accept e-transfer, cash, or cheque. If you need to cancel a lesson, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance to be eligible for a full refund or to reschedule the lesson.
